Hey all you people, TOMASAKI here. It's time to find out about The Speed Gamers!
If you have or haven't heard of them, I'm going to tell you a bit about them and their upcoming Marathon.
The Speed Gamers are a group of people spread around the world. Most of them live in the States, but I know there are also members in at least Canada and Australia. I believe their headquarters are in Texas. What they do is play through every title in a selected game series over a specified amount of time. Last time they played through the Final Fantasy titles in the course of one full week (168 hours), and raised over $50,000 for the Autism Care and Treatment charity.
Anyway, these guys have been streaming marathons for more than a year for various charities. In total, they have raised $90,000 over 13 different marathons. What I want to tell you about is their next marathon.
It starts tomorrow (Friday, October 30th) at 6:00 pm CST and ends on Sunday, November 1st at 6:00 pm (a total of 48 hours). They will be playing through all the Resident Evil titles to raise money for the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation. This charity's mission is to "help find the cure for diabetes and until that goal is achieved, to provide the care needed to combat the detrimental and life-threatening complications of this terrible disease."
The whole thing will air live on their website http://www.thespeedgamers.com
The games will be viewable in one large video stream on their website, while commentators will be streaming live to participate in communicating with the viewers and to motivate donations. I believe there are prizes for top donors and the whole thing is sponsored by Capcom (the developers of Resident Evil). The viewers can contact the gamers live through various modes of instant messaging.
